We Will Remember Them

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

I'd like to join you in remembering all your fallen heroes.
Hopefully we'll see a world peace in our future, although it doesn't appear possible with what's going on in the world today.
Canada has always been there for us, and we for them.

I know we forget sometimes, but for myself I wanted to say THANK YOU!!

In remembrance... Peace... to those left behind who are suffering immeasurable loss, to those no longer with us making the last great journey and out across the wide world, for all our sakes... Peace.

As a Vietnam Vet, I really appreciate the people who take the time to remember. We will spend this weekend with both active and retired service people.

Yes, we will always remember them...

It doesn't matter what flag they serve under or what the politics are, each one of them is someone's loved one; spouse, child, sibling, parent, friend, neighbour!

May we always remember, and never forget.

God Bless and Thank You to all who served and still serve today.

Thanks for posting this Hermione.

Past and Present, it really is so important that we all take the time to remember and to give thanks to those who sacrificed so much for the rest of us.

The ones that do come home, come home changed. Pray for our veterans world wide and thank them for the many sacrifices they make. Remember the ones who will never come home and pray for their families.

James - Thank you so much. Our countries (I assume you are in the US) have always been close allies. Since the War of 1812, that is.

Hidden Slave - We mustn't forget.

TMT - Peace. That says it all.

Bogey - I honour you as a brave veteran of a terrible war.

Sunnygirl - We have gained a lot.

Christina - Very true. No matter which side they were fighting for, they were all brave men and women.

Ronnie - It's good to have a day set aside for that.

Dragon's Rose - They are changed. Who wouldn't be, after going through war?

Patty - Very noble.

Hugs,
Hermione

Hi Hermione,
These people made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could live freely in a safe and prosperous country. They must never be forgotten.

My dad served in WW-II. I remember when I was young, he would always take me with him to buy a poppy and he would tell me about the war and how important it was to never forget our soldiers. There would be many, many veterans in the parades and at the services. Now the numbers are dwindling and the grandchildren and great grandchildren of those generations do not seem to attach as much importance to this day. It makes me sad. I have tried to pass onto my children the importance of honouring Remembrance Day and I hope they, too, will pass on the traditions to future grandchildren.

I was born many years after the war ended but as I grow older I realize just how heart-wrenching these sacrifices were. My son is in his mid twenties and I cannot begin to imagine sending him off to war, let alone losing him. May God bless and hold a special place in heaven for all our veterans - those still with us and those gone before.

Thank you for remembering.
R.

P.S. Realized how special today's Remembrance Day is. Not only is it the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, it is also the eleventh year!

R - Thank goodness our brave forces are coming home from Afghanistan. This is their last Remembrance Day there.

I hope your son never has to go to war.

A good way of honoring servicemen and women is to avoid unnecessary wars. The wars fought mainly by the USA in Iraq and Afghanistan have had little permanent impact but have cost many thousands of American lives, hundreds of allied lives, hundreds of thousands of middle eastern lives.
The idea that they fight to protect the freedoms of the rest of us is delusional rationalization.

Yes, Hermione, we remember, we should always remember. Thank you.

Thanks for this post. I am so thankful for all the American AND Allied troops! It was especially a hard year this year. Matthews unit lost an entire platoon from either loss of limbs or KIA in Afghanistan. We are a small tight knit group and this Veteran's day it really hit home. We always remember those we lost on V Day but also we reconnect with our Army buddies. I love calling up my old battle buddies on Veterans day and reminiscing. :)

Six - Thank you for defending your country.

Sarah - They're just the best!

Daisy - That's so true.

Abby - Your father was a brave man.

Anon - I'd have to agree with you about the war in Iraq.

Michael - You're welcome.

SAW - How awful to lose an entire platoon. You and the other military wives have a very special bond.

Hugs,
Hermione
