Friday FAIL

Yesterday morning after feeding and walkingthe dogs, I sat down at our computer and jiggled the mouse to wake it up. (We don't turn it off overnight; it just goes to sleep.) Imagine my surprise when, instead of the wallpaper background, I sat the "blue screen of death". There was some kind of scary warning that something was terribly amiss, and I should restart immediately. If the problem didn't go away, then I would need to call a technician.

I pressed enter and the machine then restarted itself, going through the usual boot cycle on a black screen. I saw a message, "no operating system found". Wait, what" I did too have an operating system - Windows 7. "Are you sure you looked everywhere?" I asked it.

The computer replied by restarting itself again automatically, and I held my breath, waiting. The result was the same. "No operating system". I was starting to get worried. What if Ron or I had unwittingly downloaded malicious code that ate Windows? I would have to take the machine in to be repaired, and everyone there would see my browser history. Why, oh why, had I not cleared my history? They would have such a laugh over all the spanking blogs in my history.

I ahd one last ace up my sleeve. I pressed the on/off button and held it down firmly until the machine switched off. I counted to thirty then pressed it again. the computer came to life, breezed through the black screen boot up processes, and then I heard the chime and saw the welcome words, "Windows is starting". Phew!

I need tp have this inscribed on my Medic Alert bracelet.

Now on to the lighter side of computer usage.

 That's a relief!

It sure is. Who can remember the password?

Good fails. We sometimes forget to shut our computer down and what I've found is the light on the computer is blinking which in our case just means tap the off/on switch and wake the machine up. It would be very embarrassing for some shop to see what is on my computer along with some pictures of my well spanked bottom. I better save those to a chip.

Hi Hermione, this happened to me. I had to take it into the shop for repair. It was soo embarrassing. I begged hubby to go and collect it for me as I couldn't face the lads in the shop again!

That's why I love my mac so - less problems, but still there are time I'll have to have help with something. For better or worse the Apple store I have to take it to is at least 2 hours away so I don't have to see the tech in town.

That is my nightmare!! I usually delete my browser history every time I leave my computer, not my phone though! Yikes!

I never think to delete my browser history. Oh well, they'll think I'm a kinky old crone.

That happened to me twice then third time wouldn't start so took in for repair. Didn't get any strange looks when I collected it.

We, too, have had a few scares like that. We have a pledge. The one still living takes the other's laptop on a ferry ride and throws in over board. If we both die together, the family will be in wonder as things are sorted and we watch from above.

This is so funny, yet so true. I often wonder what are kids are going to find if anything happens to us. The toys alone could damage them. I need the bracelet too. Glad your computer didn't need help. Actually, it would have been fun to see the technician's face when he looked through your history. Have a great weekend

I have a SIL who is an IT wiz. He offered to look at my computer when I was having trouble with it. Not a chance. I'd rather replace it than have him digging around on it. Luckily, Luke was able to do a restore.

I love love love that GIF! Thank you for the big laugh!

Computers can really give us a heart attack sometimes, can't they?

Hi Hermione, what a nightmare, I think having some stranger look at the computer would be too embarrassing. If they opened the history they'd find all the spanking blogs.I'd rather sink the computer in the bathtub. Great fails!

Oh gosh, Hermione, I am glad that it all ended up okay! :)

I have this understanding with a very close friend. If Rob and I go down in some catastrophe, she has my info to deep six my blogland stuff. Gosh- would never want my relatives to discover it all. But if they did, well... Oh well! I won't know what happens next! LOL! Many hugs,

<3 Katie

Love all of these Hermione! I'm very surprised you don't have your browser set to clear the history every time you close it. Hope your computer behaves. ;)

Hugs and Blessings...

arched one - That would be a good idea. I used to save all bogging stuff to a flash drive, then on day the drive wouldn't work!

Jan - I can imagine how embarrassed you were.

PK - Good thing you can go to a place where you aren't known.

Roz - Glad you enjoyed them!

Minelle - I really should do that too.

Leigh - It will be too late for you to worry about it then.

Ronnie - I think they've probably seen it all.

Meredith - What a good idea.

Blondie - Yeah, the toys are another matter entirely.

The techie would probably have assumed they were Ron's.

Clara - Best to keep all relatives away from your computer.

Erica - I've been waiting for a chance to use it.

Nina - I have an old laptop I'm afraid to recycle because of what someone might find on it.

Katie - I wish I had a friend like that whom I could trust to delete my stuff.

Cat - I really should do that. I do for IE, but not for Firefox, my main browser.

Hugs,
Hermione

my wife is the techie of the two of us and she already knows about several of these blogs. We don't have kids so if both of us die, our nieces and nephews can enjoy the browser history, mine to be exact, and wonder what a pervert I was. I do try to use the incognito google search for bringing up the more salacious spanking stuff, though.
