While there is much dysfunction in this situation, I do think that if the man's daughter is staying in his home he does have the right to state a rule of coming in by a certain time, especially if the grandparents are keeping the grandkids while she is out (which I suspect they are). I mean, when you live in someone else's domain (especially rent free, which I also suspect was the case here), you're kinda subject to how they want things done in their home.
That does NOT mean he has any right to touch her like he did. The choice,really, is 'this is what we need from you, and if you're not willing then you don't have to stay here.' However unfair that may be, it IS his house, and if he doesn't want someone coming in at all hours of the night, whether it is a control issue or he simply doesn't wanna have to worry about hearing the noise, that is his prerogative.
That being said, I can't believe she took him to court and still resided in his home.
I love it, I am definitely on the Father's side, if she is living under his roof, then he should be able to put her across his knee when she does not follow the rules, regardless of her age. We need more George Thompsons in this world. Dave

Can't help but think that parents of thirty something year old offspring, that are still living in their home, might just be tempted to start doing this. To insentivize them to find their own place.

Sarah, you make several good points. The father had every right to set the rules in his home.
