We discussed the overpowering urge to be spanked, and here is what you said:

Wendel: We were at a ComicCon last week checking out the art as well as the costumes. I especially enjoy the ladies' costumes. If the Misses caught me staring, she would smile, smack me in the shoulder and say how that one needs to be spanked. On the ride home I thought about her spanking comments and figure she really meant that I needed it. Once we got to the house, I told her I was sorry for staring and that if anyone needed a spanking it was me. I took the paddle from the pantry closet and gave it to her. The Misses told me to drop my pants and proceeded to paddle my butt until I could not sit. It was wonderful. 

Roz: I'm not sure I get to that point. If a spanking doesn't eventuate, then it doesn't. Having said that, if I'm feeling the need I often use physical signals, a bit of cheeky banter etc. I have also just simply lent over Rick's knee if we have been cozy together on the couch.

Rosco: I get spanked roughly twice a week, one of which is simply discipline and one of which is the prelude to sexual activity. If I’m itching for a spanking, all I have to do is complain or whine about something trivial, and Irene will tend to threaten me with a spanking. I’ll tell her I don’t need a spanking, which is our code for asking for one. (Our code for not spanking now is “later”. Later means later.)

These days I’ve learned to savor a spanking at bedtime or before a nap. Irene and I are pretty much in sync.

Prefectdt: How long does it take for the urge to be spanked to grow to where it is ever-present and powerful?As soon as I have physically recovered from my last spanking :) . I do not have a long term partner, so it is impossible for my feelings to be shared intimately.

Dan: The clarifying question for me would be "How long after what?" The most recent spanking? For me, that's not really relevant. I don't feel a need to be spanked simply because some time has passed since my last one. For me, it's really about whether there has been some bad behavior that I feel a need to be held accountable for. For me, it's only after something like that has happened that I feel a compelling need for a spanking. Once that's occurred, there's a fairly narrow window--three to four days, maybe a week for serious misconduct--in which that need is pretty strong. Longer than that, and the perceived need for consequences starts to taper off.

Barrel: My urge starts in about 7 to 10 days. It builds to quite a bit around two weeks, thus my email to Hermione as a prompt for this week's topic.

This time, I didn't need to say anything to my wife, my behavior did. With family staying with us, there was nothing we could do. But after they left, I got the hairbrush along with a lecture. So while I feel better, she left the hairbrush on the living room table, either as a reminder to shape up OR for easy and quick access for the next one.

A.J.: How long does it take for the urge to be spanked to grow to where it is ever-present and powerful?

No definite time. Usually, it comes with stress. Just the everyday "stuff" of life that builds and builds until you "need" something to cleanse the mind. And sometimes that 'thing' is some time spent OTK.

I remember a bad case of it a few years ago and thought that was a solution (It's not. But what the heck.) My mind said I really need one. Time and place said it's not going to happen. A month later the world was back in place.

Sad.

Hermione: At one time I used to feel the urge at least twice a week. I'd get annoyed that Ron seemed not to notice my signals. But then he would, and took matters into his own hands expertly. Nowadays, due to age and hormones or lack thereof, I don't usually have a desperate need to be spanked. If it happens, it happens, and if not, there's always tomorrow. The timing is up to Ron.

Spanking to music? 

Norse Cavalier: In order to make sure my neighbours heard nothing, I often put on the combined works of Sabaton while entertaining a spankee who used to visit me. Not sure whether it was necessary, as the walls are quite thick, but decided not to take the chance. We also both enjoy Sabaton's music anyway.

Can't say that the music reminds me of her, though.

Barrel: I distinctly recall the back ground music from Aunt Kay's DWC website. Mesmerizing! I found a link to it a few years back but can't find it. It would be the perfect music for a seriously intense session. Might any of you know where I can find it?

Roz: Great question Hermione! I love it.

I remember years ago posting a list of spanky songs on my blog.

We may have had music in the background during a spanking, but it would have been more incidental than deliberate. We have however had music accompany other activities on occasion 😊    

Luvinhub: Nothing necessarily during a spanking but I do have as an alarm setting John Mellencamp's song "Hurts So Good".

KDPierre: We love music here, but not for spanking. Most are punishments anyway and music hardly seems appropriate for something like that. Fun ones have their own 'music and beat'. ;-)

Prefectdt: Yes, there have been plenty of times that music has been played. Mostly to spare the blushes of those in neighbouring houses or apartments. I would like to say that classical music did the job, but I would be lying to you if I told you that, as classical music tends to have too many quiet periods. Strong Rock or Heavy Metal tends to work best for noise covering, Motorhead is highly recommended. There is also one song, that is very rarely played in real life, but nearly always gets played in my head, when I am trying to get through the pure pain part of spanking, early on before the magic starts. That is "Be My Enemy" by The Waterboys.

Wendel: Nothing really. There might be something on at the time but it is not by design. 

A.J.: No music. But I have had the TV on a bit louder than normal if the spanking is in a hotel room. But that doesn't count.

In my mind I have 3 classes of spanking.
Class 1 - A 'nice' spanking, both are enjoying. Nice pink bottoms and smiles.
Class 2 - 'A good hard spanking!' This is a spanking!! But not vicious. Bottom has moved past pink and will wind up almost-bright red. It's a 'let's clear the air, or 'maintenance', or whatever spanking.
Class 3 - You don't want a class 3!!!

Back to today's question - it's about the pace.
Class 1 - One smack per second, 60 or fewer per minute, interspersed with caresses and 'searching' (if-you-know-what-I-mean-and-I-think-you-do!)
Class 2 - It a REAL spanking so the pace is picked up! It's DOUBLED! Two smacks per second or 120 smacks a minute. And because it is faster, it is also a bit HARDER.
120 beats per minute is a marching cadence. Think - soldiers marching.
Also think - College fight songs!!

Fun part: The smile on the face of the spanker! And (spoiler), at 120-whacks per minute, the spanking is probably over in under 4 minutes. YMMV.

I mentioned this to a girl who didn't mind the occasional and loving otk spanking. She was a U. of Michigan alum. The thought of her otk getting spanked to that song made her laugh.  Here it is. 

This is CONSIDERABLY fasted than 120 per minutes; this is 180 per minute! The most recognized part of the fight song kicks in at the 0:52 mark.

(Note: Class 3, is double Class 2! Three to four per second or 180-240 a minute!!! My nickname for it is "The Angry Girlfriend!" Another time you might use it is at the conclusion of a Class 1 or Class 2 spanking with about 50 whacks in what I nicknamed "The Grande Finale!"

Welcome, dear friends. It's lovely to see you all here again. I was just thinking how important music is in my life. At home, we have internet radio playing on our laptop most of the time, and Ron is always on the hunt for new stations. Music is the background to most of our domestic activities.

Cane-iac Has a New Owner

Last week I received an email from Cane-iac, my go-to online shop for implements. The business has been up for sale for quite some time, but new owners Archer and Alex have taken over and they seem like a good fit. Here's the latest news.

Recap: Spanko Brunch 2.0 for August 3

This week you were asked to define a spanking.

Jack: If the spankings are foreplay I suppose you can break it down to defining. In my case foreplay is far from it, my wife/mommy considers spanking only when I've been a naughty little boy.

Bonnie: Yes, your first question aligns with my definition. If it occurs multiple times in succession, I consider those to be a series of spankings (ouch!).

Wendel: For us a series of spankings would not be switching from the hand to the paddle and then the belt. That is just the same spanking with different implements. A series of spanking would be when I spank the Misses in the morning before work and then give her another spanking in the evening after dinner. It would be when the Misses whips my butt ever night for a week. 

Roz: I agree with the definition above, a spanking is a series of swats. A series of spankings to me is where a session ends, there is a break then another spanking.     

KDPierre: Interesting question of semantics. The purist in me would agree with what seems like the consensus that one session of whacks, however given is "a spanking". However, the notion of a break muddies that definition. Let's say my wife says, "I think you need to be punished for XYZ. You are going to get a good long spanking of 600 smacks." She then gives me 300, decides her arm needs a break, and we stop for a few minutes, walk around maybe even have some water, and then go back and finish the second half. Is that one spanking with a break in between or two?

Let's take that further with something that has happened here often enough. I am sentenced to a punishment spanking of 1000 or more smacks. Even the person issuing this knows they can't be done in one go. Then, instead of a 10 minute break, a part of the overall thousand is done the next day, or even two days later, and then the next installment a day after that. Is that one spanking in several installments, or one punishment of multiple spankings?

Here's one more. I am sentenced to a punishment spanking for something that my wife is very angry about. She gives me the spanking that she declared but upon completing it feels more punishment is needed and gives me another sometime later. I would say THAT is one 'punishment' consisting of two separate spankings, but is it? ;-)

Prefectdt: My congratulations to Rosco for coming up with such an interesting question. Before I read this question, I used to consider the whole time that I was playing with someone else as a spanking. Since reading this question, I have been thinking. As play with a fellow amateur spanking enthusiast can take place over several hours, it would be impossible to continuously spank for such a period of time. So now am thinking that scenario would be better described as a series of spankings within a period of spanking play. The best questions are ones that make you think and challenge your own, perceived conceptions.

FL: This is more a linguistics question than a spanking one.
I would define a spanking as a series of spanks given in a single position, with no significant break in the delivery. The spanker may pause very briefly to change instruments but the spankee remains in the same pose throughout. Changing position - regardless of how quickly the spanks resume - signals the start of a new spanking and what had been A spanking is now a SERIES of spankings. Lucky duck.

Rosco: Thanks to Hermione for posting this question.

I get a spanking, often at bedtime, a few days a week. Irene will usually switch between her favored implements, but if it only takes a few seconds I don’t think of it as a separate spanking.

Our “dates” usually involve 2 or more spankings, between 10 minutes and up to a hour apart, along with bondage and other discipline, followed by more traditional sexual activities. Last time I think it was 5 spankings for which I don’t have the right word.

Hermione: For us, a spanking is completed in a single session, with changes of implement but no real pauses. If another spanking happened after several minutes or hours, it would be a separate spanking or one of a series depending on the length of time between.
