It's Canada's Birthday

July 1 is the date we here in Canada celebrate the birth of our country. No, it's not our "Independence Day". It's the date of Confederation. On that day in 1867, the four provinces--Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia--united to form the Dominion of Canada. To celebrate, here are some interesting facts about our country.

Impressive, eh?

It IS impressive, especially that last fact!
I have lots of friends who swear that they will move to Canada to become residents if our country elects/re-elects a repressive/regressive President. We have to make America think again. I understand this thinking with the talk of banning books, recent Supreme Court rulings, climate change deniers, anti-LGBQT legislation. Sorry to get political, but you in Canada should count your blessings; we are in danger of losing our Democracy.
Heatedly,
Jean Marie

Happy Birthday, Canada.

A Little advice. I would get some military defence on that longest border, just in case Trump comes back :(

Thank you all, and I heartily agree that we up here count our blessings and shake our heads in amazement at what's happening to the south.

We were traveling in Newfoundland on Canada Day 150 and as USians we really enjoyed the festivities. We went to evening fair at the small town where we were staying and it was great fun - a $5 ticket for a cookout dinner, 2 free beers (Canadian of course), and a seat on the lawn for the fireworks. Not sure what we would have done if we had won the raffle for the lobster boat though - not much need for those in Illinois! Then the next week we were in a small town in Maine for the US 4th of July celebration so we were able to see enjoy both and compare. Stand on guard O Canada!
