Red or Black?

Last Saturday Ron and I had some fun with our ping pong paddle. It's a nice light implement, gives a good sting and makes a lot of noise, so we often choose it. The paddle is covered with roughened rubber, red on one side and black on the other.

Ron was busily whacking away, then he stopped and asked, "Red or black?"

I thought for a moment. "Red," I confidently guessed. After all, I had a 50/50 chance of being right.

"You win!" Ron cried, and gave me my reward: a flurry of swats with the red side, right in the centre of my sweet spot.

After a few more minutes I was asked again, "Red or black?"

This time I chose black.

Ron enthusiastically shouted, "You win!" and proceeded to give me my reward.

The third time I heard the question, I chose black again and my winning streak continued.

"Wow! I must have eyes in my bottom. Just like Laura Petrie, only she had eyes in the back of her...ouch!" My reminiscences of The Dick Van Dyke Show were interrupted by an extra hard swat with the red side, I think. (In case you aren't familiar with that episode, or never saw the show, watch it here. You'll find out where Laura has her extra eyes at the 6:30 mark.)

"Do you want to see what happens when you guess wrong?" Ron asked.

"Sure."

"You lose!" Ron announced, then gave me exactly the same treatment that I had received for winning—hard and fast in the lower middle of my bottom.

So, win or lose, it's all good when it comes to spanking.

Unusable? Think again

Some photos by Italian photographer Giuseppe Colarusso were recently posted on Bored Panda. He has created very clever pictures of common everyday objects made unusable. These are my favourites.

Wait a minute! That last one is far from unusable. Quite on the contrary, it looks very functional.

While I was looking at the pictures, Ron came into the room, looked over my shoulder, and saw the ping pong paddle on the screen. He thought it was very funny and just assumed I was looking at spanking implements. He asked where we could get one. I told him he would have to modify one of our paddles if he wanted to reproduce it.

I think I can hear him in the basement with the electric drill.

See more photos here.

Wednesday WIN

SPIN Galactic is a chain of ping pong social clubs with locations in New York, Milwaukee, Dubai, Toronto and Los Angeles. It's a place to meet your friends, eat, drink, play a game or two of ping pong, and - dare I say it - enjoy a little spanking.  Take a look at the merchandise available from their online shop.

This item is described in no uncertain terms. "With this clear definition of Spanking, you'll instantly resolve any confusion anyone has about the word, before they can even reach for their phones to google it.

The definition reads: "A number of slaps on the buttocks delivered in rapid succession, as for punishment in a game of ping-pong".

Who doesn't?

This beautiful leaf-patterned paddle case would be very useful for spanking implements.

Then there are the paddles, with such features as a concave Italian composite handle for increased comfort (everyone knows how your spanker's comfort is paramount when you are getting your paddling) and an extra-light blade (for extra stinginess).

The black sandpaper paddle is "Clean, simple, cool" and no doubt very effective, although I suspect it's actually quite hot!

Limited Edition SPiN Galactic Paddle "plays just like the standard paddle, but helps you set yourself
apart."

A big thank you to regular reader Tommy for telling me about this very enjoyable club.

Paddling, 1940s style

I have a charming book called 101 Things to do in Wartime, originally published in 1940 and reprinted in 2007. It's amazing how much of the information on reusing, recycling and making do is still relevant today.

Some of the more interesting projects include making toys out of felt, creating puzzles from cardboard, wood, and wire, and knitting clothing with crepe paper instead of wool. There are also tips on saving fuel, and that's as important now as it was 70 years ago. The instructions for making blackout shades and protecting windows with masking tape - not so much.

I thought you might enjoy seeing the detailed instructions for making a ping pong or table tennis paddle. The names of some of the materials have changed over the years, but you'll get the idea.

I like the idea of covering one side with cork and the other with glasspaper (sandpaper). Covering the handle with cork would give the paddler a distinct advantage, don't you think?

If you are interested in what life was like in wartime Britain, an excellent recreation of the experience was filmed by BBC and broadcast on PBS. It's available as a DVD from PBS, and is also on YouTube in two parts here and here.

Ping Pong

I was shopping at Canadian Tire and passed by a clearance table. There were several ping pong paddles reduced for immediate sale. I picked one up, considered the possibilities, and added it to my shopping basket.

The paddle was labeled "beginner model" but I didn't see any intermediate or advanced ones so I can't say what the difference might be. I was intrigued by the different colour and texture of the rubber on each side, and wondered if I would feel a difference.

I only bought one paddle. We certainly weren't going to take up table tennis!

Later, Ron enjoyed the lovely loud sound it made when it connected with my bottom. But neither of us could discern any real difference between the black and the red side. I guess that's up to the experts.
