Meet Patrick, the interactive bum

Last Friday evening as I was driving home I was listening to As It Happens, a current events program on CBC Radio 1. The host was interviewing a U. S. professor who had developed an interactive butt.

My ears perked up at that, and I immediately thought of its use in spanking research. Could it be? But no, the purpose was strictly utilitarian. The interactive bottom, named Patrick, was invented to help teach medical students to perform prostate exams.

"The simulator itself is a piece of plastic and around the anus area is a foam, rubbery material. It's anatomically correct, and inside, they have placed a prostate so that they can actually feel what a prostate would feel like."

So there are no firm, rounded buttocks on Patrick. Pity. But the simulator does have another purpose. Before the actual physical examination, students start using the simulator to work on their beside manner.

"Students have to talk to Patrick for about five to eight minutes," the University of Florida professor said. "They work on their social skills. They try to obtain a patient history, but also have to work through anxiety that Patrick's having."

Still, there might be an application for spanking after all. Potential spankers could try to convince Patrick that he really needs a good spanking.

Here's a short clip about the interactive bum.

Patrick's physique leaves something to be desired from an aesthetic point of view. It would be so much nicer if the butt looked spankable. Oh, wait, the Japanese have already invented that. It's Shiri.

Friday Fail

A Bad Case of Bubble Butt

A Florida woman is accused of illegally injecting toxic substances such as flat-tire sealant and glue into women's buttocks as an enhancement procedure. She wore a nurse's uniform, gloves and an ID tag during the procedures. Authorities said she also injected victims with caulk and cement. The three victims suffered medical complications and infections.

The Quest for the Look

The J.Lo look, that is. A woman died recently after undergoing illegal buttock-enhancement surgery. She and a friend had traveled from London to Philadelphia, and were injected with silicone by a "surgeon" in a hotel room near the airport. The woman developed chest pains and later died in hospital; her friend survived.

The past president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons said: "There was a craze for the [Jennifer Lopez] look for a time, where women wanted more voluminous buttocks and a bit more of a curve."

The alternatives to silicone injections are buttock implants or complex protein injections; both methods are legal but expensive and time-consuming. The silicone substance used in the illegal, unregulated procedure is not approved for use in the US, and is banned in some countries.

The woman in question had undergone a similar procedure a few months ago. How big did she want them to be?

Mind Your Behind

This post is about bottoms, although it isn't about spanking or submission. Are you taking good care of yours?

According to Colon Cancer Canada, colon cancer is 90% preventable. But last year, over 21,000 new cases were diagnosed in Canada. That's sad, because there's a quick and easy test that's available from your doctor.

It's as simple as a home pregnancy test, and is done in the privacy of your own home. I won't go into any more detail here. (Google FOBT if you're curious.) When you've followed the instructions and completed the test, you seal it in an envelope and drop it in the mail or take it to a nearby lab for processing.

The test is available in many countries, so ask your doctor about it, especially if you are over 50 or have a family history of colon cancer. Ron and I take the test every two years.

The serious part of this post is now over, because the topic lends itself to a number of extremely clever slogans that for us spankos, are particularly interesting. "Be Kind to your Behind" is Colon Cancer Canada's slogan and I think it's a good one (in more ways than one).

The Colorectal Cancer Screening Initiative Foundation says "The bottom line is... if you have a bum, you should be screened for CRC. ... and put your bottom at the top of your priority list." Click here to go to their site, and you'll see a picture of a bare bottom with a scrolling list of all the different names for it in various languages.

There are also a few brief but powerful video clips:

Blushing Bottom

Cleavage

Asterisk

Eye-catching and attention-getting. And that's the whole point.
