50 Shades of Grey is still very much a hot topic in the media. Our local radio station has a contest to guess whether a passage read by a seductive female voice is actually taken from the book or simply made up. The contestants are each asked if they have read the book and what they thought of it, and you can almost feel the blushes radiating over the airwaves. The winners receive a gift card from a local adult toy store to enable them to re-enact their favourite scenes from the trilogy.
I also got an email from Canada Post with the title "Going for Gold--and Grey!" Before I read the email I had figured that the reference to Gold was a set of commemorative Olympic Games stamps. But were they also issuing a set of 50 Shades stamps? Alas, the Grey they meant was the Grey Cup - the ultimate award in Canadian football. Oh, well.
It seems there are three different opinions on this book. Some people love it, some think it's rubbish, and the rest keep silent on the subject and read it in secret. At least, that's the premise of the musical debate in this video by AVbyte.

Hermione,
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing.

If the book '50 Shades of Grey, is made into a Broadway musical. I am certain it will be a 'hit', in more ways than one. And so I can truly say, that the forthcoming "Oohs", and "Ouch's", from its leading lady, will be music to my ears.
Interesting that it is everywhere it seems (still). Good finds to put in a post:) Have a good Tuesday.
I can't believe it's still such a hot topic. I noticed today our local Tesco store has a large display of the book as you come in the door.
Good find with the video Hermione. Thanks for sharing.
Love,
Ronnie

50 Shades of Grey is everywhere. It is so popular that it automatically draws people in. It's an advertiser's dream.
Did you notice the captions at the end when all 3 singers are singing at once. Great video!
A headline in our news just recently was "Boyfriend assaults girlfriend with steak sauce over "50 Shades of Grey". The story was almost comical, well incredulous is more the word, I guess. The comments were comical! He was basically mad that she was reading the books and mentioning them to him during a telephone conversation. He took the steak sauce to her house and assaulted her with it when she opened the door (pouring the sauce on her). - and I swear I am NOT making this up! funny stuff!
xoxo- Lolli
I know of a book club comprised of teachers, that read them and the comments are a RIOT! The consensus is pretty accurately depicted in the video. Although I sometimes want to say...."the lady doth protest too much."
Minelle
It would be interesting to see the books put into a play or musical and how they would handle the spanking scenes!
Joey - I knew you'd like it:)
Six - It will surely be a megahit!
SNP - Yes, it's still a hot topic.
Ronnie - I saw the first book 2 weeks ago in a large supermarket, and then saw the second one there yesterday.
Sunnygirl - It will probably sell anything from lightbulbs to mayonnaise.
Suzie - I saw some captions after the video was over, and they looked like other videos available from the same company.
Minelle - Cool! I'd like to have listened to the discussion.
Christina - That would be a sight!

Hermione
Lolli - Sorry, your comment was hidden in the Blogger spam bucket. No, I hadn't heard of that incident. Very weird!

I know people of all three varieties. And I am kind of quiet about it, although if anyone asks, I will tell them I have read it. Just think that there are better stories out there that deserve better!
love the video.... specially the man singing about reading it and his wrist hurts.. ohhhhh!
Maybe it will have a liberating effect on some people, which would be fabulous..
TTWD: the more the merrier... and yet we rarely connect with anyone we think we trust except through our fictitious names...
bottoms up
Red
" . . . a seductive female voice,"
is it? Being kind of selective
here, aren't we, now?
What about a male seductive voice?
BTW, what is, or are, "50 Shades of Grey"?
I've never seen or heard the musical, read the book, nor seen the postage stamp.
And why "50"?
Hey, they don't know anything about
us, so why should we know anthing about them?
hi hermione.
grate clip. Have you actually red the book? im in two minds tbh, we have red a bit of a sample on the official web cite, but im still not totally convinced.
That was an amazing clip, well found.
I'm trying to read the book at the moment but so far have only found it to be a good aid to falling asleep with boredom. OOPS! sorry, I almost finished this paragraph without saying how amazingly good looking Christian Grey is (which seems to be some literary rule in this book).
Prefectdt
The woman who "wrote" the trilogy is a COMPLETE hack. She knows NOTHING about TTWD except for what she read on the internet. The whole thing started out on FanFiction as some Twilight thing. Our kinky book club read the first two, well some did, some didn't but everyone agreed she is DEFINITELY NOT ONE OF US!
This is priceless! This will come as no surprise to anyone, but I'm with the dark-haired woman. :-)
omg, that made me laugh outloud. I love you Hermione!! :D
50 shades is definitely something God used to radically change my marriage - FOR GOOD! :D
omg, that made me laugh outloud. I love you Hermione!! :D
OMG thank you. so funny!!
Julia - I think I would say yes if someone asked me, but not sure I would give them my honest opinion of it.
Red - "My wrist hurts" was my favourite line too:) True, it's so hard to open up about TTWD. Fear?
Ricky - The lines from the book (or not) were always read by the female DJ, to simulate the first person voice of the novel.
50 Shades of Grey is a novel about BDSM that's currently a best-seller.
Ticcers aloud - No, I have flipped through the first few chapters but it's hard to ignore the bad writing.
Prefectdt - It's great for insomnia.
Scunge - I agree, she's just going on what she imagines to be what we do.
Erica - No surprise at all!
Young Lady - I think it's totally amazing that the book did such great things for your marriage. I'm sure it has helped many more people just like you.
Reneerose - Thanks.

Hermione
I have read all 3 books from cover to cover. There is quite a lot of repetition, but although it won't win any prizes for its literary style, IMHO it IS a good story and downright hot in parts... I actually enjoyed the third book best, which is a shame because many people don't read that far! xxx
Well, excuse me . . .
Why doesn't anybody ever tell me about all this stuff?
Daisy - It's good to know that the third book was your favourite. You're right, no one ever talks about it.
Ricky - You'll find the book at Amazon.com if you think you might want to read it.
Hugs,
Hermione
