Friday FAIL

The 50 Shades of Grey hype is starting again in anticipation of the movie version, premiering next Valentine's Day.

Then there is the Cracked website's take on why the book is worse than the movie. To give the writer credit, one of the reasons he gives—besides the obvious one of bad writing=bad movie—is that "Fifty Shades of Grey preserves the long-held misconception that people who enjoy BDSM are mentally unstable in some way." Christian Grey is "described as an impossibly rich white man with a helicopter who "knows what he wants and gets it," which in this case is punishing sex with subservient women. So basically, he's a dick on a magic broom."

If you read the above article in its entirety, you will have learned that casting the lead roles was a problem, mainly because no one wanted them. But what if Ellen Degeneres had auditioned for and won the role of Anastasia?

These are great Hermoine, love Dora and 50 Shades together and the Ellen clip is a hoot! Definitely have my doubts about the movie!

Ellen de Generes is so darn funny. Just love her. I'm anxious to see the movie to see what they've done.

that's great...loved the Ellen clip. I admit, bad/good it doesn't matter - I still want to see the movie. :-) Thanks for sharing

Lol. The movie will be a prime candidate for a crew like MST 3K. Actually the book could have been much better if the plot had been changed. What if Grey is smitten with Anastasia but is RELUCTANT to disclose his dominant desires and A senses that he is hiding something but won't tell her. By accident she finds out and must choose whether she wants C and his lifestyle. There is a huge difference here. Had the conflict gone in this direction it would have made a lot more sense. She could have said 'I want to try it' and he could have eased her into it (maybe with her saying 'more'), instead of this clearly abusive situation you get in the book.

I honestly agree with the ass and the broom, which is why I didn't finish it. I don't like how something terrible fucked him up and now he is 'wrong' in the head, at least that is how I took the author as having written it.

But, I will go and see the movie. :D

The damaged people do BDSM bothers me but the book did something great. Women are talking about their sexuality and what they want. I think that is great. I see critical reviews of the book but honestly it isn't any worse than 99% of the books I have read recently. Poor writing is the new fad maybe? I'll see the movie when it comes out on Netflix.

Great article! The movie will be dreadful. But you know what? The same people who read the dreck will flock to watch the dreck. (sigh)

When I went on a large family holiday family, all four twenty to thirty year old young women were reading 50 shades. They were all graduates or professionals! I glanced through vol 1 and managed less than twenty minutes before realising it was awful.
I'm sure the film will be dreadful but the leading actors isn't. Jamie Dorman is currently acting as a genuinely sinister serial killer in an excellent thriller called "The Fall" co starring the excellent and very beautiful Gillian Anderson.
I can thoroughly recommend this and hope that his reputation survives 50 Shades.
The Fall is currently on BBC 2 amd you may be able to get it on BBC Iplayer.

Roz - I thought the juxtaposition was very clever.

Leigh - I think Ellen is a hoot!

Terps - I hope you enjoy it.

Rollin - Your plot makes so much more sense.

Ronnie - I have abandoned the book, and probably won't see the movie.

Julia - I also agree, based on what I saw in Spank! The Parody.

Rose - Not a fad I'd care to join in on, but you could be right.

Erica - They will, in droves.

Cat - She's a very clever woman.

Jimisim - The Fall just started on TV here and I have recorded two episodes so far. You have piqued my interest, so we'll watch them this weekend.
