When "Ouch" Just Won't Do

The latest scientific study related to pain suggests that swearing after an injury eases the sting. There seems to be a link between bad language and an increase in tolerance to pain.

So it is perfectly justifiable to swear at your top while you are being spanked. It increases your tolerance so you are able to stand the increased attack on your bottom that the swearing will inevitably provoke.

Sounds like a vicious circle to me. Vicious, but fun!

The Power of Touch

Scientists have discovered something that we spankos have known for years: touching relieves pain.

British researchers at University College London have found that grabbing your toe or finger after it has sustained an injury provides immediate relief. Their conclusion was that touching the aching area relieves pain by changing the way the body is represented in the brain.

Oh. So that's why we rub our bottoms after a spanking.

I wonder what they spent on that study. They could have saved a lot of money by just asking spanking enthusiasts.

Tan your Hide

A study has found that an all-over, full body tan is not possible, because different parts of the body darken differently. The buttocks are less easy to tan than backs, and stubbornly stay white. How interesting. I assumed that tanning behinds was pretty straightforward, and any whiteness would soon disappear upon vigorous application of some suitable implement.

The study warned that hard-to-tan areas need more protection. Against the sun, that is.

The Seat of your Pants

Scientists using seat-of-the-pants research - literally - say how something feels to you can affect how you act.

In one experiment, for example, 86 people took part in negotiations over a new car with a very high sticker price.

Some were seated on hard wooden chairs. Others had comfy padded seats.

After their first offers were rejected, the participants made a second proposal for the car.

People on stiff wooden chairs raised their offered price by only a little.

But the relaxed folks in soft chairs were willing to spend quite a bit extra.

The hardness, the researchers concluded, produced strictness and rigidity in the negotiation.

The chair experiment was one of a series of tests he and colleagues did showing that the sense of touch can have a significant impact on people's reactions, even though they may not realize it.

I can vouch for that. A spanking often has a significant impact on my reactions!

Pleasure and Pain

Scientists have identified the specific nerve fibres in the skin that transmit pleasure messages.

This is something different, because for years, they have been investigating what produces the sensation of pain, and how nerves convey that information to the brain.

It seems that, in order for a sensation to be recognized as pleasurable, the skin must be stroked at just the right speed. Too fast or too slow and the pleasure response doesn't happen.

I suppose the same could be said of the stroking that produces pain. Strokes that are too fast (yikes!) or too slow (yawn...) don't produce the same effect as strokes that are just the right number of seconds apart (yum).

MBS Spanko Brunch #144

Welcome to the MBS Sunday brunch, coming to you today from our remote location in the north. Ron's got the fire going and it's nice and warm inside.

I'm very honoured to be hosting today's brunch for Bonnie, because it marks another milestone. There have now officially been a gross of brunches - twelve dozen great discussions, and an equal number of delicious meals. To commemorate the occasion, I want to share with you an article that I hope will generate a good discussion.

According to the New Scientist, chimps never forget a bum. They have no trouble matching pictures of the faces of chimps they know with pictures of their bottoms.

For those of you who administer spankings, picture your partner's bottom, or look carefully at it. For readers who are on the receiving end, think of your own, or use a mirror if you need to. Our topic for discussion is:

How would you describe that bottom? What is unique about it? What makes it unforgettable and so very spankable? What do you like best about it? What is it that attracts those swats? Does it have any distinguishing features or beauty marks? What about how its surface feels, or the sound a spank produces on it?

Don't be shy! No pictures please, but do leave your comments, and after everyone has had a chance to share, I'll put together an edited summary of the discussion.
