What? No Spanking?

After seeing my post last week with a map of fetishes in the UK, our good friend Rosco wondered if there was a similar map for the US. He actually found one and left the link in a comment. In case you didn't follow it, here is the map of fetishes in the US,and a link to the full article here.

There are  a few I've never heard of. But what is odd is, there is no state in which spanking is the most popular fetish. I wonder why. Maybe that explains a lot about that country. Just saying.

Window Shopping

If you were strolling along the sidewalk in a shopping district and saw these panties in a store window, what would your reaction be? A smile at least, or maybe you might step inside to check out the other wares for sale. If you are a resident or a tourist in Virginia Beach, this sight may no longer be available.

The Virginia Beach council voted last week to prohibit display of "vulgar" or "indecent" clothing in the shop windows along the popular Atlantic Avenue boardwalk. The reason is that the lewd messages are spoiling the area's "wholesome" image and may keep people away from the hotels, restaurants and bars in the area. I don't know about you, but I would be more likely to visit the boardwalk if the shop windows were this entertaining. Read the full story, including pictures, here.

Thank you Rosco for finding this gem.

Spanking is good for you

We all know that spanking is beneficial in so many ways: it relieves stress, it erases guilt, it's a great turn-on, and it's just plain fun. Well, science has finally caught up with us.

A study has proven that spanking improves psychological health. People who indulge in spanking (or other BDSM activities) are more extroverted and open to new experiences, but also less neurotic, anxious, and paranoid. They are also more secure in their relationships.

Haven't we known that for a long time? Read about the study here.

Friday FAIL

Let's see what FAILs we can find on the six o'clock news.

Unfortunate name. I wonder if he's a bookie.

I don't know either. Let's hope no Chinese viewers are hoping for subtitles in their alnguage.

I would be devastated too, if I had any.

The Latest Trend

Is this a wedding photo gone horribly wrong, or the latest trend in wedding shoots? If you guessed the latter you're right.  According to Elite Daily, the latest fad is to have the bridesmaids display their hidden assets for the camera.

Friday FAIL

Most television news stations have those crawlers and subject lines underneath the picture to help viewers understand what is going on. But sometimes the caption only causes more confusion.

 Wife stabs husband with...wait. What?

Okay, that makes more sense...I guess. I'd be unhappy if we were out of beer too.

How inappropriate. That's even worse than a mayor who gets drunk and uses crack cocaine.

I think it was a salute to an endless winter. Right on, sign!

This reporter should have cleared his search before letting the camera see what he's been up to.

With a few italics for emphasis.

Honestly, some parents...

Speaking of captions, did you Complete the Caption? No? Well, what are you waiting for?

In the News

Our daily newspaper includes a weekly summary of the local criminal court cases, and this one caught my eye. "Man Strips, Uses Belt" was the headline. A local cab driver bore the brunt of a drunken rage as an intoxicated man stripped off his clothes and beat the cab with his belt.

It seems that a taxi driver was sitting in his cab at around 1 am when a group of intoxicated young men surrounded the vehicle. The taxi driver was unable to drive away and summoned police on his phone. One of the men took off his clothes and began whacking the cab with his belt. After they decided that the vehicle had been sufficiently punished and had learned its lesson, the group left the scene. Police apprehended the belt-swinging suspects a few blocks away.

That cabbie had a good story to tell his wife when he got home. Perhaps he even re-enacted it for her benefit.

Wednesday WIN

Things didn’t quite go as planned for the two men who tried to rob Zhen Yang’s convenience store in Gatineau, Quebec.

First, Yang doused them in bear repellent, then he bent one of the thieves over the counter and spanked his bare butt. Then, out of nowhere, Mrs. Yang showed up and clearly expressed her anger and fear on the intruder’s head with her foot.

Big Bottoms in the News

A woman was arrested in Bloomington, Minn., for allegedly shoplifting at the Alaskan Fur Company. The store said she had taken a $6,500 coat, which she denied. Police found the hanger for the coat in her car, and she was arrested.

After three days in jail, the woman admitted to a detective she had taken the coat, but said she had already sold it. After further questioning, she admitted she still had the coat, and pulled it out of her underwear.

"She had modified her underwear," a police spokesman said. The 270-pound woman "actually cut the rear of the underwear out so that from the back it appeared she was not wearing underwear, and then stuffed it down the front," and it stayed there for the three days she was in custody.

Seal it with a swat

When did we start signing our names to contracts? While the practice of signing one's name to a document does go way back, Slate recently revealed that it was also common to use wax seals to indicate authenticity between the 6th and 17th centuries.

Another more casual way to seal an agreement was cutting off a lock of one's hair and giving it to the other party. During the 13th century, agreements were sometimes marked with a slap, or some other traumatic act. The theory was that both parties would remember not only the injury but the accord that was reached on its infliction.

So spankings were legally valid and recognized as memory improvement aids.

Tan your Hide

A study has found that an all-over, full body tan is not possible, because different parts of the body darken differently. The buttocks are less easy to tan than backs, and stubbornly stay white. How interesting. I assumed that tanning behinds was pretty straightforward, and any whiteness would soon disappear upon vigorous application of some suitable implement.

The study warned that hard-to-tan areas need more protection. Against the sun, that is.

The Seat of your Pants

Scientists using seat-of-the-pants research - literally - say how something feels to you can affect how you act.

In one experiment, for example, 86 people took part in negotiations over a new car with a very high sticker price.

Some were seated on hard wooden chairs. Others had comfy padded seats.

After their first offers were rejected, the participants made a second proposal for the car.

People on stiff wooden chairs raised their offered price by only a little.

But the relaxed folks in soft chairs were willing to spend quite a bit extra.

The hardness, the researchers concluded, produced strictness and rigidity in the negotiation.

The chair experiment was one of a series of tests he and colleagues did showing that the sense of touch can have a significant impact on people's reactions, even though they may not realize it.

I can vouch for that. A spanking often has a significant impact on my reactions!

This will hurt you more ...

Yesterday Spankedhortic wrote about myths involving pain. You really have to watch his Mythbusters videos! Especially the one comparing men's pain tolerance to that of women.

My response to that post is a little discovery of my own. A recent article in the newspaper announced that our perception of pain is enhanced by talking about it. Saying "This may hurt" can actually make the pain more intense. Talking about pain stimulates a part of the brain called the "pain matrix".

What does that mean for those of us who seek pleasurable, erotic pain? During a spanking, the spanker can produce a greater effect with less effort by simply telling the spankee that it's going to hurt excruciatingly. The spankee will then experience more intense pain (along with corresponding enjoyment) without fear of excess bodily harm. How convenient!

Marine Life

An Australian woman was attacked by a shark while snorkeling, but managed to escape after punching and kicking the two-metre-long fish until it released her. Significant damage was done to her legs and buttocks, and she lost a significant amount of blood during the attack. The victim faces at least five operations, but it's not all doom and gloom.

Her take on it? "I have to have a new remodeled bottom, so that's a positive."

Spank Quietly

A woman in Britain will go to jail for eight weeks if she keeps on having noisy sex, a court ruled recently. She and her husband keep their neighbours awake at night with sounds described in court as "unnatural" and "like they were both in considerable pain".

For the next year, to avoid a prison term, the couple will have sex in the mornings instead.

And will spank with quieter implements too, I hope.

Was it worth it?

From the Associated Press via Yahoo News comes this item:

A 38-year-old former Miss Argentina has died from complications after undergoing cosmetic surgery on her buttocks.

Solange Magnano, a mother of twins who won the crown in 1994, died of a pulmonary embolism Sunday after three days in critical condition following a gluteoplasty in Buenos Aires.

Close friend Roberto Piazza said the procedure involved injections and the liquid "went to her lungs and brain."

"A woman who had everything lost her life to have a slightly firmer behind," he said.

Overheard in the Media

Spanking references are everywhere these days. Here are a few that made my spanko senses tingle.

On the radio:

During a retrospective on the failure of a major investment firm that led to the financial collapse a year ago, the presenter spoke of a review of "...those banking practices..."

When you say it fast, it sounds like TTWD.

In a newspaper:

After a dinner party, in front of a blazing fire, "the hostess finally at ease, with [guests] of various ages draped over laps and sofa arms..."

You finish the sentence!

On television:

A popular cooking show star who likes simple, casual dining complained that when she walked into a dining room and saw "the white tablecloth and the straight-backed chairs, I get shivers up my spine."

Who wouldn't?
