Was Carrie Anne Carrying On?

Every time I hear the song Hey Carrie Anne by the Hollies on our Oldies radio station, I am struck by the possibilities hinted at in the first verse:

When we were at school our games were simple
I played a janitor, you played a monitor
Then you played with older boys and prefects
What's the attraction in what they're doing

Hey Carrie Anne, what's your game now, can anybody play

Do you suppose Carrie Anne was the spankee? By a boy playing the part of a janitor?

Or maybe she was the spanker. After all, she was a prefect.

But then the song continues:

You lost you're charm as you were aging
Where is your magic disappearing?

Oh, Carrie Anne! How you've changed!

The song concludes:

People live and learn, but you're still learning
You use my mind and I'll be your teacher
When the lesson's over, you'll be with me
Then I'll hear the other people saying

Hey Carrie Anne, what's your game now, can anybody play

So the janitor is now teaching Carrie Anne a lesson?

You can see the spanko in anything! I really like that about you!

Hmm...I'm beginning to suspect you as a spanko. I'm slow to catch on.

Are monitors the same as prefects on your side of the pond? In England prefects were prefects and monitors were younger kids with specific duties like milk monitor or paper monitor. I was a library monitor for one year (that was good fun) but it was totally different to being a prefect (that was a pain).

Is Dr. Phil a janitor?!

In my school prefects were able to give the cane. Shudder.

I love the way you think Hermione.

I hated being a prefect, I didn't like having to discipline the younger girls. I used to let them off.

Love,
Ronnie

So, I wonder if "Carrie Anne" ever hollered, "Stop, Stop, Stop"? ;-)

PK - I do my best. Thanks.

BP - Uh oh. I guess I can't hide my secret any longer.

Prefectdt - I didn't realize there was a difference. We didn't have either at my schools.

Poppy - Yes, that would be a perfect second career for Dr. P.

Ronnie. What a kind prefect you must have been.

PK - Oops, sorry!

Red - I didn't either, but it was fun to pretend.

Erica - No, no, no!

Hermione
