Every time I hear the song Hey Carrie Anne by the Hollies on our Oldies radio station, I am struck by the possibilities hinted at in the first verse:
When we were at school our games were simple
I played a janitor, you played a monitor
Then you played with older boys and prefects
What's the attraction in what they're doing
Hey Carrie Anne, what's your game now, can anybody play
Do you suppose Carrie Anne was the spankee? By a boy playing the part of a janitor?

Or maybe she was the spanker. After all, she was a prefect.

But then the song continues:
You lost you're charm as you were aging
Where is your magic disappearing?

Oh, Carrie Anne! How you've changed!
The song concludes:
People live and learn, but you're still learning
You use my mind and I'll be your teacher
When the lesson's over, you'll be with me
Then I'll hear the other people saying
Hey Carrie Anne, what's your game now, can anybody play
So the janitor is now teaching Carrie Anne a lesson?
