The holiday season is fast approaching, and a sure sign is an influx of mail-order catalogues that arrive in the mail almost daily. A recent one that I enjoyed leafing through was from the Smithsonian Institute. The merchandise is unique and quite expensive, so it's a read-only catalogue. I did, however, find some interesting items to share with you.
A vintage heart pancake spatula. This would be the perfect addition to my collection of heart-shaped kitchen utensils. Decorative yet useful for flipping or paddling.
In keeping with the theme, how about heart-shaped measuring spoons. Too small to be useful for discipline, they are charming reminders about good behaviour. Each one is embossed with a slogan like "A pinch of kindness".
Finally, the heart tea strainer and matching holder. Made of pewter, it looks like a little arrow and is so cute it might convince my husband to switch from coffee to tea. Maybe I'll put a few sticky notes in the catalogue and leave it where Ron can see it.
All photos are from the Smithsonian Online Store.

OH i loved the pics. thanks for sharing. i'll go over there and take a look... just for fun... you know...
Nick calls them sucker magazines, but I do love to look through them.
Hugs,
PK
Very cute heart shaped objects. Nice photos.
Hug,
joey
I love those mags that have any and every unique item you could wish for.
Imagine the pink hearts the spatula could make after a well applied swat :)
I also love those "sucker magazines" as PK's Nick calls them. Sometimes, they aren't so badly priced, and for gifts they have such unique items that it is sort of worth it......
Very cute, Hermione :)
omg that first one!!! Ouch! It looks like it can cut skin.
Those measuring spoons look a lot safer. ;)
Fondles - Of course...just to look:-)
PK - Sucker magazines - I love that!
Joey - The perfect adornments for my blog.
Minelle - I enjoy them too. I'll have more pictures from a different catalogue soon.
SirQsmlb - Wouldn't they be lovely!
Lill Ian - We find it convenient to shop from them rather than battle the crowds at the mall.
Ana - I'm not a fan of metal myself, but carefully applied it might be fun.
Hugs,
Hermione
I do love looking through those magazines, hardly ever buy but you get some good gift ideas and then Google to find them cheaper:)
Love the heart pancake spatula.
Love,
Ronnie
xx
I love the Smithsonian catalog. I think you need to add the spatula to your collection. If Ron complains he can always put it to good use.
Ronnie - That's exactly what we do, and can usually find things cheaper or from Canadian companies (no duty, less shipping costs.)
Sunnygirl - Hmmm, maybe he might like a membership for Christmas. Then he'd save money by shopping there.
Hugs,
Hermione
I want them all! Very cute
Blondie - They're a lovely set of hearts. I want them too:)
Hugs,
Hermione
Love the pics, very cute. I want them all too - well, except the first maybe - ouch!
Thanks for sharing Hermoine :)
Roz - My pleasure!
The pictures ar amazing! I'm amazed how many interesting things you can find there. I love that heart shaped spatula. I'm sure my girl would love it! She has a lot of heart shaped stuff. Last year I bought her an amber pendant and she wears it everytime. I'm sure, she would use this spatula everytime she would cook. I'll probably go to see if I can find one!
Thank you for sharing, I really love reading your blog! You always have interesting stuff to show! Thanks again!!
