One can only get good at it by doing it again and again. After learning the basics: how to use a whip, handle a cane, tie a tight knot...how to construct a beginning, middle and climax, then it's time to edit and refine the act. And I relished the flexing of my voice, using it in seductive and poignant ways. I learned how to cause a tremor with a whisper, to assail and assault through my tone, to recognize and hypnotise a man in the dark...
The power of words. The power of silence...
Now, if it was corporal punishment he wanted, I could spend long, lazy minutes engrossed in the minutiae, the rhythms and endless variations of touch and tempo. I'd put him over the whipping bench or over my knee and begin stroking his bare bottom, teasing him, warming him up. I magnified my caresses, stroked, strummed, kneaded and slapped in soft staccato. When done to music, the whole room vibrated to the act. The slaps get louder, harder, sharper; and my hand burns. He's my instrument, and I play him and compose.
Susan writes beautifully, and evokes the emotion behind the action, and captures details and nuances that bring the scenes to life. Throughout the book the author describes various scenes she has with her clients, and spanking is only occasionally featured. This adds variety to the book but those other activities are outside the scope of this blog. I will, however, share a spanking scene with you next time.

From the little extract you have shared with us Hermione I think she writes very well. An interesting book.
It's true a good top knows the power of words and the power of silence.
Thanks.

Ronnie

I think I may have just found a new read. Thank you
Ronnie - She writes quite a lot about food too, and seems to be an excellent cook.
Sunnygirl - It's available on Amazon.com

That was wonderul
I read that book too! And guess where I got it from--the library--
no kidding!
Excellent excerpts, Hermione, and yes, she is an excellent writer:
her description of the organized mayhem that goes on in a restaurant's kitchen during the lunch rush-hour will make you appreciate your meal all the more, next time you have lunch.
It's a wonderful read--I don't want
to give away too much.
Enjoy!
I can't wate till you put up the next spanking scene!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She certainly is a great writer, what little I read was very tantalizing and peaked my interest in her book. However I cannot help but feel a bit sad that she approached her skills in such a clinical fashion and was not able to fully enjoy her work. It makes me think she missed the best part of being a domme especially as I think back upon all the fun I have had with those I have played with. But that won't keep me from wanting to read more of her book.

Anon 1 - Thank you.
Richardmt - The Library? No way!
Having watched many restaurant rescue shows and having seen the kitchen chaos in them, I do appreciate that a lot goes into preparing a meal.
Anon 1 - There will be two, actually.
Anon 3 - That's exactly how some Amazon reviewers felt. She derived little pleasure from domming.
Hugs,
Hermione
