Spam

This blog receives its share of spammy comments each day. I don't have CAPTCHA word verification on because it's so annoying, but the Blogger spam filters are very good at identifying a spam comment and directing it to the spam folder instead of publishing it. You see, I have trained the filters to recognize spam. I don't simply delete a comment if it appears on a blog post; I mark it as spam first, then delete it. Identifying a comment as spam trains the spam filters, and they quickly learn what constitutes spam on my blog.

Red discussed the spam problem here and I agree they a nuisance to readers who subscribe to comments and end up reading this garbage. Not even word verification plus filters can prevent the spam from coming through via email. Sorry about that!

I have comment moderation on for posts over 14 days old, and if a specific older post seems to be a target, I will turn off comments on that post.

For your amusement, here are a few of the simpler spam comments I have seen in the past. They're short, sweet and quite generic.

Great post. See my blog. [URL for Rolex watches]

Nice blog. You make a good point. [URL for Ugg boots]

Appreciate this post. Let me try it out. [URL for the little blue pill]

This is an amazing business opportunity. [URL for enlarging a body part I don't even have]

Then there are the ones that have a bit more detail in them. Still obviously generic, but might possibly be mistaken for sincere comments were it not for the inclusion of a link to some unrelated web page. They're fun to read when you keep in mind that they have been left on a spanking blog. I have made no effort to fix the shaky grammar.

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often. [URL for job seeking]

I am satisfied to seek out so many useful information here within the put up, we want develop more strategies in this regard, thanks for sharing. [URL for more Ugg boots]

I havе been browsіng online greаter than 3 hourѕ nowadays, уet I never founԁ аny fascinatіng article likе yours. It's pretty value sufficient for me. In my view, if all site owners and bloggers made just right content material as you did, the internet shall be much more helpful than ever before. [URL for increasing website traffic]

At this time I am ready to do my breakfast, once having my breakfast coming yet again to read other news. [URL for online dating]

This one's my all-time favourite.

Thank you for the sensible critique. Me & my neighbor were just preparing to do some research about this. We got a grab a book from our area library but I think I learned more clear from this post. I'm very glad to see such excellent information being shared freely out there. [URL for - you guessed it - Ugg boots]

I can imagine the spammer and his neighbour doing spanking research at the library.

The next one is an example of overkill. The spammer seems to have strung together a bunch of unrelated spammy comments that could each stand alone. Why? For effect? To give the impression of having really read the blog? Or maybe to fool the filters. Anyway, here it is, and remember, it was left as a single comment. I couldn't resist adding my own comments in [square brackets].

Woah! I'm really loving the template/theme of this blog. It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's very difficult to get that "perfect balance" between superb usability and visual appearance. I must say you've done a superb job with this. In addition, the blog loads super quick for me on Internet explorer. Outstanding Blog! [2 URLs to unknown sites]

Hi! Would you mind if I share your blog with my myspace group? There's a lot of folks that I think would really appreciate your content. Please let me know. Thank you [Myspace? Really?  This is the 21th century!

Hey I am so glad I found your site, I really found you by accident, while I was browsing on Digg for something else, [You were looking for Harry Potter, am I right?] Anyways I am here now and would just like to say many thanks for a fantastic post and a all round enjoyable blog (I also love the theme/design), I don't have time to look over it all at the moment but I have bookmarked it and also added your RSS feeds, so when I have time I will be back to read more, [2 more URLs here]

Please do keep up the great job. I like what you guys are up also. Such clever work and reporting! Keep up the superb works guys I have incorporated you guys to my blogroll. I think it'll improve the value of my web site :) [There's nothing like a link to a spanking blog to raise the value of a spam blog.]

Hello just wanted to give you a brief heads up and let you know a few of the pictures aren't loading properly. I'm not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I've tried it in two different browsers and both show the same outcome. There are certainly a variety of details like that to take into consideration. That could be a nice point to convey up. [There's nothing wrong with the pictures but this statement might have grabbed my attention if it wasn't part of a comment flood.]

I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration however clearly there are questions just like the one you bring up the place an important factor will be working in sincere good faith. I don't know if best practices have emerged around things like that, [Yes, we have best practices in spanking as in everything else] however I'm certain that your job is clearly recognized as a good game. [Huh? Spanking is neither a job nor a game] Both girls and boys really feel the influence of only a second’s pleasure, for the remainder of their lives. [Spanking children isn't allowed here.]

So here's the final word on spam, from George and Gracie:

I have only received one spam comment. Not that much traffic. Obviously this can be a good thing, since I am spam less. Ha ha!
Love your comments to the spam!!

I get some spam, but I would rather delete them myself than have readers deal with word verification. Thank you for sharing.

PS SPAM is a favorite dish in Hawaii.

Some of these are imaginative. So far I've been lucky enough to not receive any - probably not enough traffic.

Thanks for the tips though. You know this techNo person needs all the help that is offerred,

Have a great day.

Nope no Spam yet...Thank goodness. But reading yours was hilarious! I especially 'liked' the one that went on and on about your layout.

Thanks for taking something that must be so annoying, and turning it into entertainment for us.

I get these all the time (including those detailed ones), and a lot more lately. Not sure why the increase, but at least I don't have to erase them off my blog.

Roz - It seems to be on the rise.

Minelle - Lucky you! Fro the lack of spam, I mean, not the lack of traffic:)

Ronnie _ I understand they are very good, but still...!

Red - Have a go and see how it works for you.

Joey - Me too. It's getting harder and harder to decipher.

We have a slice of fried Spam for breakfast sometimes. Yummy!

Sunnygirl -I'm always here for you with answers to your tech questions.

Wilma - It was too good to destroy without sharing first.

Erica - Yeah, I know! I borrowed one of yours for this post:) They do seem to be much more prevalent now.

Hugs,
Hermione

The spam filter at WordPress works very well too. Sometimes too well, I have to keep fishing the comments of one genuine commenter (Six Of The Best) out of the spam bin.

Prefectdt - I remember the time my comments landed in your spam bin too, because they contained URLs. Poor Six!

MrBB - Don't you dare!

Would you believe I have had two spam comments to this post?

Lea - I haven't seen Ambien yet. I can hardly wait!

Hermione
