Was it worth it?

From the Associated Press via Yahoo News comes this item:

A 38-year-old former Miss Argentina has died from complications after undergoing cosmetic surgery on her buttocks.

Solange Magnano, a mother of twins who won the crown in 1994, died of a pulmonary embolism Sunday after three days in critical condition following a gluteoplasty in Buenos Aires.

Close friend Roberto Piazza said the procedure involved injections and the liquid "went to her lungs and brain."

"A woman who had everything lost her life to have a slightly firmer behind," he said.

This is such a tragic story. I just wish women could learn to accept their bodies the way they are rather than resorting to plastic surgery.

Of course, part of the problem is that our society judges women by their bodies and fashion models who look like they need a meal have created such unrealistic expectations. Too bad we can't go back to the Reuben era when a few extra pounds on a woman were just fine.

And it's a shame that we can't reach that utopia of judging women on their personality, their values, their brains etc.

We agree with Florida Dom! I have a broad flat butt, when aj makes love to me he will put a pillow under me to build me up. The results for both of us are fantastic to say the least. aj states every woman is beautiful: just look at the inside.

Have been working on a post about "ass insurance" which is popular in Brazil and Argentina... and learned how popular this kind of surgery is. There are other far more common problems than death too. It's pretty risky. Sad story.

I think it is tragic when people feel so bad about themselves that they connect their self worth to their bodies and their bodies to some crazy ideal.
I am not sure we give men any credit of we assume that they find only one body type attractive and I know that being vain and self obsessed is not attractive no matter how one looks.
It seems so sad that people who need plastic surgary (after an accident or after an illness) have to have their brave ordeal lumped in with this search for ... well I don't know what.
I am not being mean about the ladies that convince themselves that if their breasts were two sizes larger or their hips were two sizes smaller they would be happy. I just wish them some peace and a bit more perspective on life and what matters.
Like Florida Dom says, I wish we could change how women were seen and how they see themselves.
Thanks for this post, very sad but very interesting.

FD - Yes, it's tragic. I suppose having bee na beauty queen played a part.

Rachel - AJ is very wise.

Todd and Suzy - I guess bums are popular in South America.

Poppy - I wonder if any of those people who have extensive plastic surgery are ever really happy. rremember that lion woman?

Hugs,

Truly sad!!! I love Cindy exactly as she is, and compliment her daily. Every man should do the same, and thus be a role model for their children in respecting the way we are, without artificial enhancements, except maybe a rosy bottom.

I honestly don't understand why people do that kind of stuff to themselves. I say let's put the plastic surgeons out of business... let them go back to doing what they should be doing. Fixing up accident and burn victims, and people with other deformities. You know... the people who actually need it.

What a tragic story Hermione. I know a lot of us women are probably not happy with some part of our bodies but it's sad that some feel the need to go to these lengths.

I possibly could understand if she had facial surgery but why the bottom?

Thanks for sharing this with us Hermione.

Love.
