Little Free Library

Little Free Libraries are popping up all over the city. If you've never heard of it, a Little Free Library is a wooden box with a glass door, mounted on a tree, pole, or fence, and it contains books. Free books. The idea is, you take a book, read it, then return it - or not. There are no fines or late fees at these libraries. Readers can also leave books of their own for other people to enjoy.

I was surprised and delighted to discover a Little Free Library in my neighbourhood on one of our regular walking routes. The original contents of the library was mainly children's books, but over time, the selection has become more varied. Ron and I have left several novels there after we had finished reading them.

Some time ago I wrote a post about the difficulty in disposing of unwanted adult reading material. What fun it would be to erect a Little Free Library on our front lawn, stock it with spanking books, and watch the reactions of potential readers.

I did leave one such book at our neighbourhood library. It had the innocent title The Piano Teacher (written by Elfriede Jelinek) but it was rather a dark tale with a variety of BDSM elements. There was little or no actual spanking in it so I was glad to part with it for the sake of the experiment. Each time we walk past the box, I check and it is still there. We'll see how long it stays on the shelf.

Hi Hermoine, what a great idea! I haven't come across these here.

I love your idea of having your own one and filling it with spanking books lol

What a wonderful idea. Well not filling it with spanking books :-) That might not go over well in the community.

Roz - I'll probably never do it. Ron would object to the disturbance of his lawn.

SGT - Welcome!

Hermione

If "Fifty Shades of Grey", were left in this free library, it might attract some attention. By the way the movie is scheduled to come out on Valentines Day Feb 14th 2015

Hi Hermione, I think the idea behind this is great. We don't have the little boxes but there are some bakeries around here which do it, they have a pile of books where everybody can grab one or add another one. But the wooden boxes outside are much better, because you can go there 24/7.

a great idea, but the dark bdsm book makes me hope no children or young adults frequent this free book drop!

That's a great idea. You couldn't put any of your spanking books in because of children using it.

I have seen these around Hermione and I think it's a great idea. If I lived in the city, I would have two boxes...one for children and one for adults. You'll have to let us know if anyone takes "The Piano Teacher". ;)

Hugs and Blessings...

Great idea! I agree it would be fun if you did set up a free spanking library on your lawn, advertised and filmed it. Now that would be interesting to see who were the curious and the eager.

I have thought about getting rid (just kidding) of some of my spanking books and putting them into those donation boxes you see in shopping centers and wonder what people would think if they looked at them. HA

I love the idea of a little free library...very clever :-) Let us know if the book is taken... Hugs

Six - It would be fun to try that. I might if I find a used copy.

Leigh - It sure would.

Nina - That's also a great idea.

Red - They possibly do, but most of the books in it now are of interest to adults.

Ronnie - I probably won't put another one in.

Cat - Two boxes is a good solution. I'll keep you posted.

Enzo - I would love to do that!

Baxter - I have put one or two into donation bags. I put our old VHS porn films into waste containers in the mall.

Terps - I will let you know. Or if it is taken, then reappears.

Hugs,
Hermione

Wonderful idea they had. Not one in our city at present. Might have to set one up and see what happens.

What a coincidence that you mentioned Free Library boxes today. I've seen these little boxes before (my good friend has one in another city), but I'd never taken a book until last week! In my case, I took a National Geographic magazine about parasites infecting insects and other animals and turning them into zombies. I haven't read it yet, but I will this weekend.
